What is the difference between Hitch & Other Apps?
Ride-sharing is mainly used to denote community members giving rides to others, usually for a profit. The drivers of ride-share vehicles act similar to taxi cabs, giving paid rides in their own personal vehicle to members of the community. These drivers are not going to the same destination as their rider, they are simply giving a ride to the riders preferred destination and then continuing on to give another passenger a ride to a new location.
On the other hand, Carpooling is a term used to describe 2 or more people who have a similar commuting pattern and share a ride in an effort to reduce traffic congestion, costs, and pollution. With Carpooling, both the ride and the driver are heading to the final destination together. Carpools are not-for-profit rides, and typically the passengers only reimburse the driver for a portion of the cost of gas and car maintenance.
How do pick-ups work?
Drivers are able to opt in and out of being able to pick-up passengers from either their desired pick-up location or at a current “hot-spot” which is accessible to all passengers.
How do ETA’s work?
Passengers will be able to view provided ETA’s for when your driver is to pick and drop you off. Please note that ETA’s are estimates and not guaranteed. Many variable factors can cause impact in travel time.
How do I book a ride?
Hitch makes booking a trip really easy. Navigate yourself through the pages through Hitch It and look for the microscope button to search for a trip heading the direction you are looking to go.
Is there a minimum age for riders and drivers?
Users must be 16 years old to register. Anyone under the age of 16, will have to be either accompanied by an adult and/or must confirm with the driver if they are fine with having them alone. A driver must be 21 years old and must be fully licensed.
How long before the departure of a ride can it be booked?
Riders are able to book up to 2 hours before departure. You can also use the chat function to directly message your driver to receive more information.
How do drivers get paid?
After a trip is completed on Hitch It, there is a 2 day clearing period where riders and drivers are able to dispute the bookings. After 2 days, the payout becomes available and is ready to be sent to the driver. At this point the driver has to have a valid method to receive payment. Processing can take anywhere from 2-6 days!
Do I have to pay taxes on my earnings as a driver?
Hitch It operates under a service for carpooling regulations. Please note carpooling is different from ride-sharing.
